Julie Green was born in 1963 in Sydney, Australia.
She studied at the City Art Institute, Sydney, graduating in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts. In 1991 she opened Julie Green Gallery exhibiting contemporary Australian art, and participated in the inaugural Outsider Art Fair in New York City in 1993.
In 2005 she completed her Master of Art Therapy at Western Sydney University and concurrently completed the study of oil painting technique at the Charlie Sheard Studio School.
Between 2000 and 2006 Julie painted mural commissions in Sydney and Melbourne and worked in perinatal mental health as an art therapist. Since 2008 Julie has been drawing and painting and running an independent art psychotherapy practice in Sydney.
